Product Description

5-Fluorouracil is a fluorinated pyrimidine analog widely used as an antineoplastic (anticancer) agent. It interferes with DNA and RNA synthesis in rapidly dividing cancer cells by inhibiting the enzyme thymidylate synthase, ultimately preventing tumor cell replication and survival. It is commonly used in solid tumors including colorectal, breast, gastric, pancreatic, head and neck cancers, and certain dermatological lesions.

5-Fluorouracil is converted intracellularly to active metabolites that: Block thymidylate synthase, inhibiting thymine synthesis needed for DNA replication; Incorporate into RNA, disrupting transcription and protein synthesis; Result in cell cycle arrest and apoptotic cell death, particularly in fast-growing malignancies
