Proguanil Hydrochloride is an essential antimalarial API widely used in the prevention and treatment of Plasmodium falciparum malaria. It is frequently combined with Atovaquone to create a synergistic effect for malaria prophylaxis. Proguanil works by interfering with folate synthesis in parasites, inhibiting DNA replication and preventing parasite multiplication.
Proguanil Hydrochloride operates through inhibition of dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) in malaria parasites, disruption of DNA synthesis and cell division, synergistic enhancement when paired with Atovaquone, and effectiveness against chloroquine-resistant strains.
