Rilpivirine Hydrochloride is a second-generation NNRTI used in combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) for HIV-1 infection. It is designed to retain activity against strains resistant to earlier NNRTIs, providing excellent potency, tolerability, and improved long-term treatment outcomes. It is commonly used in once-daily fixed-dose combinations for HIV management, offering strong viral suppression and good safety profile.
Rilpivirine is a selective non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. It binds to an allosteric site on the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase enzyme and inhibits viral RNA-to-DNA transcription, prevents replication of HIV-1, reduces viral load and slows disease progression. It is particularly effective when used in combination with other antiretrovirals.
