Voriconazole is a second-generation triazole antifungal agent used to treat serious and potentially life-threatening fungal infections. It is particularly effective against invasive aspergillosis, Candida, Scedosporium, and Fusarium species. The API is formulated into tablets, oral suspensions, and intravenous injections.
Voriconazole inhibits fungal cytochrome P450–dependent enzyme 14α-lanosterol demethylase, disrupting ergosterol synthesis and impairing fungal cell membrane formation. This leads to inhibited fungal growth and replication, providing both fungistatic and fungicidal effects against a broad range of fungal pathogens.
